Simply Framed x Oh Joy

To say we were flattered when Joy Cho reached out to us about framing would be an understatement. It was more like a total freak out. We've been readers of her blog Oh Joy for years and count her past gallery walls as inspirations. When she mentioned that she was interested in having us frame some prints and vintage textiles, we got stars in our eyes.

Joy's process started with a trip to the Rose Bowl Flea Market, where she picked up two vintage scarves and a beaded obi that she thought would look nice on her walls. She chose to frame a few prints that she already owned that were compliments to the brighter colors of textiles. Our goal when working with Joy was to make sure that the frames she chose were not just a great fit for the piece at hand, but in a style that would work well with the overall look of the gallery wall.

Simply Framed x Oh Joy: Designing the best gallery wall layout

Our advice is to always start your gallery wall design with the biggest piece and build out from there. Joy did this with the retro silk scarf, which she decided to hang vertically to create a nice top-to-bottom balance. Next came a print by Permanent Press Editions, another by Read Between the Lines, a photo by Jen Gotch, and the two other textile pieces she picked up at the flea. The frames used include our white gallery frame and our antique gold and antique silver certificate frames. We think the final gallery wall is stunning. We hope you do too!
