VAV – The Sacred Connector
by Avraham Rafael
18 × 18 inches · Framed Art Print The Hebrew letter VAV, whose name means “hook,” symbolizes connection—binding heaven and earth, the spiritual and the physical. In the Torah, VAV appears in Exodus 27:9–10 as the silver hooks that held together the curtains of the Mishkan, the sacred dwelling place of God. Just as the Mishkan housed the Divine Presence, the Torah remains the living habitation of God’s word today. With a numerical value of six, VAV represents unity and completion. Six directions—north, south, east, west, above, and below—define a space that is whole. It also reflects connection through learning, echoed in the six orders of the Mishnah, through which one draws closer to God. Visually, the form of the VAV acts as a conduit: a single line drawing divine energy downward into the world. This artwork serves as a reminder that holiness is created not by escaping the physical realm, but by connecting it to higher purpose.
