Becoming
by Blue Myers
Becoming celebrates the unfolding of spring on the Pacific Northwest forest floor. Fringe Cups (Tellima grandiflora), ancient horsetails (Equisetum spp.), and unfurling fern fiddleheads are among the first plants to emerge, taking advantage of the brief window of sunlight before the forest canopy closes. Together, they nourish the insects and pollinators that awaken with the season. Created using the historic cyanotype process, botanical specimens were placed directly onto light-sensitive paper and exposed to ultraviolet light, allowing sunlight to preserve their delicate forms in the distinctive Prussian blue of this early photographic technique. The Pale Swallowtail butterfly completes the composition, marking the culmination of spring's transformation—a landscape that has fully awakened and come alive.
