Summer Gold
by Blue Myers
Summer Gold celebrates the abundance of midsummer, when fields and woodland edges are alive with blossoms and pollinators. Created using the historic cyanotype process, the botanical specimens were placed directly onto light-sensitive paper and exposed to ultraviolet light, preserving their delicate forms in luminous white against the rich Prussian blue of one of photography's earliest printing techniques. The vibrant yellow blossoms have been carefully enhanced with watercolor, adding warmth and drawing the eye to the flowers at the heart of the composition. Blooming in July, these wildflowers provide an important source of nectar and pollen for native bees, butterflies, and other pollinating insects during the height of the growing season. Their golden blooms stand in striking contrast to the cool blues of the cyanotype, celebrating the richness and vitality of a Pacific Northwest summer.
