Below the Surface
by Blue Myers
Below the Surface reveals the hidden world beneath a blooming water lily, where beauty is supported by an intricate network of stems, roots, and aquatic life. Created in the distinctive Prussian blue of the historic cyanotype process, the composition invites viewers to look beyond the floating blossom into the ecosystem that sustains it. Beneath the water's surface, tadpoles weave among the lily stems, finding shelter as they begin one of nature's most remarkable transformations. Their presence reminds us that a pond is more than a collection of plants—it's a nursery for new life, where every stem and leaf contributes to the health of the ecosystem. By revealing both the flower above and the life below, Below the Surface celebrates the interconnectedness of wetland habitats and the unseen relationships that make them flourish. It is a meditation on resilience, transformation, and the extraordinary complexity hidden beneath still waters.
