Clock Watchers
by Blue Myers
In this image, dandelion clocks stand open-faced beneath a deep blue sky as their seeds drift outward in luminous arcs, tracing pathways like stars crossing the heavens. A solitary grasshopper pauses among the stems, captivated by the seeds' departure, while the dandelion clocks themselves seem transfixed by the sky and the breeze that carries them. Created using the historic cyanotype process, the artwork is made by exposing botanical specimens directly onto light-sensitive paper with ultraviolet light, producing the distinctive Prussian blue tones that characterize the image. The process transforms familiar meadow plants into celestial forms, preserving a fleeting moment of wonder in sunlight and shadow. Rooted in the earth yet reaching toward the cosmos, Clock Watchers reflects on release, movement, and the quiet awe that connects all living things to forces larger than themselves.
