Kelp Study Variation 1
by Blue Myers
Kelp from Vashon Island beaches spreads across a mixed ground, its branching fronds in deep Prussian blue. A nudibranch and anemone — collaged wire forms — rest within the composition, organisms that share the same intertidal habitat as the kelp. This is a cyanotype collage: the print was made by placing kelp directly onto sensitized paper and exposing it to UV light — the foundational photographic process developed in 1842. Additional elements were collaged and finished digitally, spanning analog and digital image-making in a single work. Limited edition of 500.
