Gold Rush
by Derek Nielsen
Fall in Telluride Colorado overwhelms the senses. First, the eyes can barely take the intense visual displays nature profoundly shows off during peak fall. Many days, I had to wear sunglasses while walking through the forest, not because of the sun but the bright colors of the leaves. Second, the feeling of the cool, crisp air on the skin leaves you craving more. The mighty Mount Wilson is shown in the background of this image. Its famous peak is often used in advertising. Standing here photographing this scene, I couldn’t get enough of the clean, fresh mountain air filling my lungs. Finally, the scale of it all grounded me in a sense of place. Looking over the colorful mountains has a way of making you realize just how small you are in the universe, and it left me feeling just so in awe of it all.
