Desert Hummingbird

A hummingbird in flight, built from layered cyanotype prints against a mountain-and-cloud landscape. Constructed from botanical forms in Prussian blue; pressed red seaweeds fill the throat and flank the composition on both sides. Grey roses anchor the lower frame, muted and textural against the pale ground. The piece reads as both field specimen and living thing. This work began as a cyanotype print — a historical photographic process where UV light burns an image into sensitized paper, producing its characteristic steel blue tones. It was then collaged with additional cyanotype-printed elements — botanicals, pressed red seaweeds, cloud forms — building the composition in layers before being finished digitally.
