Our mind is still in Miami... The rain couldn't stop us from viewing a few of the Art Fairs this past weekend. There was color, bravado, and beauty. Here are some noteworthy pieces that caught our eye.
Portrait by Brian Calvin at Almine Rech Gallery. Photo by Art Basel.
Yto Barrada at Pace Gallery, Art Basel.
Big Sister by Michael Williams, 2014, CANADA at NADA.
Watchful Bliss by Sarah Irvin, 2014 at Kathryn Markel Fine Arts. 26"x40", ink on yupo.
NO ONE'S HOME, STAY STEADY, THE THINGS THAT COMFORT (2015), A set of three silkscreens, Edition of 250 by KAWS, at Pace Prints at Art Basel.
We also had the pleasure of framing a few pieces for our friends at the Tappan Collective who hosted an event with Net-a-porter's The Outnet at the W Hotel in South Beach. Our 2 favorites - Pop Stars, Rappers, and Other Important People... by Lola Rose Thompson and large framed photography print Court 5 by Ward Roberts. Browse works for sale here!
While much of what's for sale at the fairs are out of our budget, we were excited to see that J. Crew teamed up with French artist Pierre Le-Tan for a limited-edition collection of Miami Beach inspired items for Design Miami. We of course fell in love with the pocket square since it has so many uses, including custom framing it as an addition to any growing gallery wall.
Finally, if you're looking for an easy way to stay up to date with the contemporary art world, follow the Rubell Family Collection. Based in Miami, this is one of the world’s largest, privately owned contemporary art collections. They always have exciting exhibitions during Art Basel Miami Beach and following them on instagram will help keep you up to date and ready for next year.
