So, you’ve received your gorgeous, custom framed art back from Simply Framed and it looks even better than you had hoped! Now what?
Follow our foolproof, step-by-step guide to correctly hanging that freshly framed art in its perfect new home, to be loved and admired for years to come.
Pick the right place.
When it comes to hanging art, the first step is also the most important. While each space is unique, there are a few universal rules that should be followed: Typically, art should be centered over furniture and positioned 6-8” above it. (If you are not hanging above a piece of furniture, measure 60” from the floor to the center of the frame.) Make sure the piece is the right size for the space, and doesn’t look dwarfed or cramped. (Note: This might mean moving some things around!) You also don’t want your art to be hit by direct light or high humidity.

When hanging a group of items, like a triptych or gallery wall, treat the entire collection as a single piece and follow the same guidelines. (Looking for tips for hanging a gallery wall? Start here.)
Consider the hardware.
Turn your custom framed piece over and look at the back. What type of hanging hardware does it have – wire or sawtooth? If it’s a wire, you’ll want to mount a hanging hook to the wall. If you have a sawtooth, a strong nail or screw will work.
Measure from the bottom of the frame to the hardware, where the nail will be. Now, measure the same distance (from where you want the bottom of the frame to land on the wall, to where the hardware will be) on the wall, and mark with a pencil. This is where your nail will go.

Note that if you are hanging with a wire, you’ll want to pull it taught to mimic the way your art will realistically hang. Also keep in mind that the lowest point of your hanging hook (the point from which the wire will actually hang) will be lower than the spot on the wall where you will hammer the nail.
Even it out.
Nothing distracts the eye like art hanging crookedly on a wall. Make sure yours is even by using a level or other device. If you have a Simply Framed Tool Kit, you have a level. If you don’t, you can purchase one from any hardware store, download a free app like iHandy Level, or try this simple trick.
Once you have your level, hold it against the frame and adjust as needed. When the bubble is centered, you’re good to go.
And voilà, your art looks just as good on the wall as it does in its new frame!
