Seated Female Nude
by Pieter de Josselin de Jong
C. 1871 – 1906. From the archives of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam Josselin de Jong was a prolific Dutch artist who trained at The Royal Academy of Arts among other prestigious art institutions across Europe. He became the primary painter of nobility and the grand bourgeoisie in the Hague, receiving a Gold Medal from King William III. In Seated Female Nude we see a different side of the artist as he quickly captures a nude model in a study. This page from the artist's sketchbook is often overlooked as a process more than a finished piece is given new life being framed and presented to a contemporary audience.
