Silent Reverie
by Lindsey Kiser
"Silent Reverie" sprang forth from the idea of being in the present and noticing the beauty that is all around us. This print of a colorful scratchboard of a monarch butterfly pollinating a milkweed flower bears witness to the artist’s direct observation of nature on her three acre sanctuary outside her home studio in rural Northern Kentucky. The original scratchboard was selected for inclusion in the 13th Annual Exhibition of the International Society of Scratchboard Artists. THE ARTISTIC PROCESS: "The scratchboard was etched or scratched with a sharpened sewing needle held in a pen vice to reveal the white clay under the black layer. Next, I applied colorful inks to the white scratches. Then I scratched the colorful layers again and repeated the process until I was happy with the result."
