The Golden Hour
by Lindsey Kiser
Although hunting grouse is often a beautiful, solitary and almost sacred endeavor, sharing the experience was meaningful for all of us. At the end of the hunt with time to reflect upon the day, there was a certain stillness in the air, like we knew each of us were making memories even while we were living in the present moment of the hunt. Undoubtedly, there was a bittersweet element that hung in the air. There was an unspoken acknowledgement between the old hunting buddies that while this hunting trip would certainly include some of their best and most memorable days together, there was a deep knowing that their golden years were ahead of them and that they should enjoy every moment to its fullest. But shouldn’t that be true for all of us? While we spend the first half of our lives enjoying “First Times”, we should think about all of our experiences as if they could be our last. After all, we never know when something is our “Last Time” until time reveals the unknown.
